Journal Entry #1: (DUE MARCH 15)
When solving a system of linear equations, how many possible solutions exist in each scenario? Explain how all solutions are possible and what mathematical conditions must be in place for each possible solution to exist.
If we compare this to solving a system of linear inequalities, how many possible solutions exist for different types of systems? Explain how these possible solutions exist and what mathematical conditions must be in place.

Journal Entry #2 ( Due April 13)
Journal Entry #2
Pick two of the puzzles and/or games we played in class and explain the best strategy to win.
Material: 1 Suduko puzzle
Goal: To solve a Sudoku puzzle place a number into each box so that each row across, each column down and each small 9-box square within the larger diagram ( there are 9 of these) will contain every number 1 through 9. In other words, no number will appear more than once in every row and column, or smaller 9-box square. Working with the numbers already given as a guide complete each diagram with the missing numbers that will lead to the correct solution.
Game #2 - Toothpicks games ( 2 player)
Material: 13 plain toothpicks and one is colored (Total of 14 toothpicks)
Goal: To not pick up the colored toothpick
You may pick up 1,2 or 3 on each turn. The player who wins gets to go first the next time.
Game #3- Circles (2 player)
Material: The pattern drawn below on a piece of paper and a pencil for each player.
Goal: To not cross off the last circle
Rules: Take turns crossing off a whole row or part of a row. You cannot cross off circles vertically or diagonally and you cannot double cross a circle.
Game #4 Picaria – ( 2 player game)
Materials: 1 game board (see image below), 3 different objects for each player.
The two players take turns placing one counter at a time on an empty point on the board. When they have all been placed , the players take turns moving one counter at a time along any line to the next empty point. Jumping over a counter is not allowed. Each player tries to create a row of three- this can be made in any direction. The winner is the first player to get three in a row.
Game #5- Ken Ken ( 1 player) http://www.kenkenpuzzle.com/ (Note can be played on line)
The goal is to fill in every box so that no number is repeated in each row and column. In a 3 x 3 puzzle use the numbers 1 to 3, in a 4 x 4 puzzle use the number 1 to 4etc. The heavily outlined areas (see image to the right) are known as cages.
The top left corner has a target number and a math operation. The numbers you enter in a cage
must combine ( in any order) to the target number using the math operation indicated.
